How to Choose a Commercial Painter in Sydney

Colourful indoor commercial painting project in Sydney by Colourise Painting, featuring bright floor coatings, painted columns and professional finishes for high-traffic spaces.

The right commercial painter is licensed, insured, safe on site and able to work around your trading hours. Price matters, but on a commercial job the bigger risks are downtime, safety incidents and a finish that fails early. Check the points below before you sign anything.

This guide is for business owners, property and facility managers, strata managers and builders comparing quotes for offices, shops, warehouses and unit blocks.

1. Licence and Insurance

In NSW, painting work above the legal value threshold must be done by a licensed contractor. Ask for the licence number and check it on the NSW Government licence register. Also ask for current public liability and workers compensation certificates. Colourise Painting is licensed (Lic. No. 142 843C) and fully insured.

2. Safety on Site

Commercial sites involve staff, customers, plant and work at height. A good painter will talk you through how they will isolate work areas, manage access equipment and protect people and stock. Ask how they handle work health and safety and whether they provide safe work method statements for the job.

3. Scheduling Around Your Business

Ask when the work will actually happen. For most office painting and retail jobs, after-hours or weekend work is the only way to avoid disruption. Larger sites such as warehouses and factories are usually staged area by area or done during shutdowns. Get the program in writing.

4. A Clear Written Scope

  • Exactly which areas and surfaces are included
  • What preparation and repairs are allowed for
  • The products and number of coats
  • Who moves and protects furniture, stock and equipment
  • Start date, finish date and working hours
  • What happens with variations

Two quotes can look very different in price simply because one has left out the preparation. Compare scope, not just the total.

5. Experience With Your Type of Building

Painting a strata block is different to painting a factory or a school. Ask what similar jobs they have done and how they approached them. Our work covers commercial, strata, industrial and corporate painting.

6. Warranty and Follow-Up

Ask what warranty comes with the work and what it covers. Our work is backed by a 10-year warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can commercial painting be done after hours?

Yes. Most commercial painters, including Colourise Painting, offer after-hours and weekend work so businesses can keep trading.

How do I compare two commercial painting quotes?

Line up the scope: areas included, preparation and repairs, products, number of coats and timing. A cheaper quote often leaves out preparation.

How far ahead should I book a commercial repaint?

As early as you can, especially for larger sites or work that has to happen during a shutdown or outside trading hours.
